When Home is Disrupted

Isn't life crazy one minute we are off running errands and dealing with the chaos of life and the next we are stuck in our homes trying to do the same. I don't know about you but I suddenly found myself working from home with my husband and just when I thought it wouldn't get crazier my three kids are now home from college 3 months early. It's not just them either it's all there stuff. Now don't get me wrong I love having my kids home but I usually have time to prepare and organize first. So if you find yourself in a similar situation as me here are three hacks to help you feel a little more organized amongst the mess.

1. Shelving

Shelves are your new best friend. They can be essential for any space. They'll not only open up your room but get your things up off the floor. Put them in the living room for your books, candles, art and trinkets. In the kitchen to store plates and glasses or even in the pantry to put all that extra food you stocked up on. The best part is there are so many options that you can easily find a style that matches your space.

2. Contain It All

Wether its the bedroom, kitchen or pantry containers are not only a great way to feel less cluttered but they are often the cheapest solution as well.

- Try a large woven basket in your living room for extra throw blankets and pillows. Even when they are just tossed in they give the appearance of order.

- Matching glass/ceramic containers will not only make your pantry appear more organized but keep your food fresher as well.

- Baskets with lids are a fantastic way to store your extra things without others knowing whats inside. They can also add a nice touch to the corner of your room.

- Tired of stacks of shoes in front of your door or mudroom? Try giving each family member their own basket so that their shoes are easy to find and accessible while also out of the way.

3. Utilize Space

This is a great time to go through your drawers and cabinets! You'll be shocked at all the extra space you have in there and at the amount of things you maybe don't need anymore.

By far the least organized place of most homes is the drawers. Things get thrown around and mixed up especially when you are in a hurry. Putting dividers in your drawers will not only make you feel more organized but more often than not encourages you to actually be more organized.

I know this is a crazy time but you shouldn't have to compromise your own state of mind. Hopefully these help you while you are quarantined at home and if you have any other tips you'd like to share please comment below!

From my home to yours,
